These are links to my personal favourite sites on the web. If you know of another page I might like, please, let me know!
Hues
A cool, multicultural magazine for women who care about more than how to put on blusher and get men.
Sassy
The old Sassy, of course, before Peterson Publishing bastardized and then killed it. Evil, evil Peterson!!!! You must die!!!!!
Sissy
The lost issue of Sassy, consisting of funny, cool, and sometimes scary (see Evan Dando's incest-fest short story) celebrity stuff.
Foxy
Skating, grrrl-centric feminism, funny rants, interviews, and other coolio things. It's the bomb.
Bust
Sex-positive, mature, witty, outspoken, and clever. The online version of one of the best paper mags ever. You should check it out.
Action Girl Online
Action Girl is a really good series of comix by women, edited by Sarah Dyer, zinester par excellence and Space Ghost writer. This page has info on the comic book, links to girly websites, and way way more. Behold.
gURL
A straightforward, smart e-zine for straightforward, smart girls. Featuring the brilliant Paper Doll Psychology section.
Rainn
A very good anti-rape organization. They're doing some rad things. (And, in case you needed any more proof that Tori Amos is a goddess, she founded it.)
taryn likes it!
Riot Grrrl stuff, links, projects, zines... in the words of Butt-head, "That does not suck."
Ceilings Peel
The zine after which this page is named, and lots of fun links.
You say you want a revolution
RG links & project listings, plus a really hepcatish Scooby Doo picture! Dig in.
Les Miserables
The official Cameron Mackintosh commisioned page, with all kinds of good stuff: tour info, an exhaustive guide to the musical, a bio of Victor Hugo, a study guide, a bulletin board, multimedia, and way way more. Go here and prepare to get lost.
Les Miserables at Center Stage
Part of a Boublil/Schoenberg page. Plot synopsis, news, current cast info, mailing list info, The Barricade newsletter, bulletin board, tour dates, and links. Super good.
Les Miserables Mailing List Homepage
The mailing list FAQ and lots of Les Mis links. Go here! And join the list, it's totally swellegant.
Les Miserables
A really good unofficial page, with songs, recordings, the libretto, links, and special features on Les Mis performers. A must see.
Sarah's Les Miserables Page
General info on the musical and characters, with special sections about Eponine, Javert (my favorite character, so you know I loved this) and Phillip Quast (the definitive Javert, and rather a choice piece of- okay, sorry, I won't go there, but he's rad).
Beyond the Barricades
Lots of info on Les Mis-related recordings, the mailing list FAQ, similarities between Les Mis and Miss Saigon, ten lines that would have changed the story of Les Miserables, and links. Plus, check out the cool counter. Wouldn't it rock to be the 24,601st visitor to this page?
The Roman Empire
Info about everything from the Roman army to Roman theatre. If you're a big classical geek like me, go here. Now.
Roman Place Names
The ancient Latin names for cities, and their modern equivalents. I.e. Lugdunum=Lyon, France (as you well know, Salana...).
Roman Calendar
Want to find out if today was a Roman holiday? Curious as to whether your birthday was an Olympian god's sacred day? Wondering just what in the hell a kalends is? Here's where to find out.
De Imperatoribus Romanis
An online encyclopedia of Roman emporers. It's still under construction, but there's plenty here already- so if you want to know just how wierd Elgabalus really was, here you are.
Rome Resources
Part of The Dalton School's Rome Project. Lots of info and a cool logo with the she-wolf on it. Awww, yeah.
Ancient Rome
Way, way, way more Rome-related links than my lazy ass will ever put together. I'm too busy smoking and watching Rocko's Modern Life to bother. So go here and rejoice in the splendor.
Ancient Roman History Timeline
A huge timeline, with an emphasis on the roles of women (who are often slighted in the study of history). Super-swellegant.
Labyrinth Library: Latin Texts
The Latin Bible, classical Latin texts (and the Greek texts that influenced them), and medieval Latin writings. A good selection, especially if you're interested in Latin in it's various stages of development.
Latina Pro Viatoribus
A Latin travelling dictionary. Okay, so unless you're going to the Vatican, you'll never need this. So what? It's still cute.
Latin word list
A biiiig list of Latin words and their English translations.
Perseus Project Home Page
The Perseus Project kicks ass! This huge, huge classical resources page is good for wasting about ninety hours at a time- but they might make it subscription-only pretty soon (the bastards!), so get it while you can.
Latin Language and Literature
Latin language! And literature! Yeah, baby, yeah!
Crazy Caesars of Rome
Caligula... Domitian... Elgabalus... all emporers, all powerful, all nutty as fruitcakes. This page contains very sensationalistic accounts of their mentally imbalanced activities- and that's the kind of reading material we like!
ARMAMEMTARIVM
Roman arms and armor. Very interesting, and useful if you're planning to start a war against Carthage or anything.
Tori Amos
Tori Amos
The official Tori site. Interviews, song lyrics, and pictures. Pretty dang nice.
Fairy Tales
Yet more Tori! This site is HUGE and full of everything a Toriphile could want. Go forth and scope it out.
Having Margaritas with the Goddess
In English and Spanish. I can barely read Spanish, but I sure like the English version.
Really Deep Thoughts
The Tori zine, online and a lot of fun.
Nine Inch Nails
Above the Trees
All kinds of really good NIN stuff.
nineinchnails.net
Pretty much a standard NIN site, but there are LOTS of pics of Trent. Check it out, but remember, try not to drool on your keyboard.
Cypress Hill
Cypress Hill @ Sony
The official Cypress Hill site. Official sites are usually not that good, but this one is actually fairly decent.
Cypress Hill
En espanol, with a lot of wav files.
Arnaud & DJ Kham Cypress Hill Rap Page
A super-good unofficial site
More of my favourite bands & stuff:
Heather Nova
I forgot what all is on this site, but I remember it's really good.
The Cure
The cutest official page I've ever seen for any band. It has a really friendly feel unusual to sites of it's type. And check out Robert's recipes!
Operation Ivy
Bankshot! Lots and lots of resources for one of the best bands ever.
tHE DrOwNSoDa HoLe WeBPaGEs
Exhaustive, all but obsessive, Hole info. Everything from a discography to the band's astrological info, in case you really want to know Melissa Auf Der Maur's sign or something.
Babes In Toyland
A way way lot of Babes info. Supercool.
The Craft
Basic Wicca info, the Sabbats, rituals, magick, witches action alerts, lots of links, and just way more. You have to see this one.
The Witches Voice
The Witches Voice is an organization devoted to Pagan rights, and their website is full of such things, as well as a directory, Wicca info, special sections on teen/parent/gay/military/any combination thereof witches, Sabbats, links... there's too much here for me to list. Just go.
Tarot readings
As a Tarot reader myself, I have my doubts as to how accurate an online reading can be, but it's still cool and a lot of fun. Plus, some of the decks are absolutely gorgeous.
Fairy Tales:Origins and Evolution
The scary, violent, sex-filled, and culturally meaningful origins of today's rather milquetoast faery tales. I wish I'd been told these stories when I was little, instead of that lame-ass virgin-princess-in-a-tower crap.
Bulfinch's Mythology
Slightly watered-down (read:no freaky-deaky!) versions of the Greco-Roman myths. Okay, I'd rather read Ovid any day, too, but Bulfinch was a good writer, and his retellings of these stories are always clear and enjoyable.
The Encyclopedia Mythica
A huge and reliable source of information of mythology from many different cultures. This just kicks too much ass for me to explain. Go here! Now!
Urban Legends Reference Pages
Several of the more popular UL's, debunked or confirmed. (Say what you will, I still think the priest in The Little Mermaid was sporting wood.)
The AFU and Urban Legends Archive
The alt.folklore.urban FAQ and archived postings on every subject imaginable. A great way to kill five hours that you were supposed to be doing homework in.
Bunnyhop
A cool, witty zine, mostly made up of funny-but-insightful commentaries on pop culture. Smug, yes, but you'll like it too.
Meet the Sociables
Paper dolls... without the pesky little tabs! Dress up the cute little mods and get them ready to go out for a martini.
Sanrio
Nothing kicks more ass than Sanrio, especially Pekkle, the coolest duck ever. This is the official Sanrio site and it's absolutely addictive. Go and feed your craving for Hello Kitty.
Blair
I love Blair sooo much. Catty, sarcastic, and clever, featuring the ever-popular "Lesbian or German Lady?" and "Gay or Eurotrash?" games (both of which no-gaydar Sara sucks at).
High Times
Not that I approve of this sort of thing. Marijuana is evil! It's bad and only bad people use it! But if you're a no-good drug user, take your wicked miscreant self to this page.
Aliens Stuck Stuff Up Your Ass!
A South Park page, the title commemorating Cartman's little interplanetary mishap. Funny as hell.
Clowns Are Evil Incarnate
I've been saying it for years, now there's a whole webpage about it. Except of course for Krusty, all clowns are evil flesh-eating demons out to get you, and if you need proof just go here.
Nick's Homepage
My brother's page. He wrote it, chose the graphics... and made me put it together in HTML. Lazyass.
Factsheet 5
Factsheet 5 is soooo excellent. Lots and lots and lots of zine reviews. I sort of find R. Seth Friedman's writing style unbeliavably annoying, but that's just me. F5 is cool.
Planet Daria
The most comprehensive Daria page anywhere. It beats the hell out of MTV Online's lame and near-undownloadable Daria section, but then, what doesn't?
Alligator Postcards
I really dig alligators, and I really dig kitsch. So this page is like my dream. Lots of really cheesy old alligator postcards, ranging from cutesy to butt-biting. Woo-hoo!
How To Create Fake Photos of Ghosts
Want to stage a haunting? Need a quick fifty bucks and hear the Weekly World News is buying ghost pics? Just want a picture of yourself looking spectral? Well, here's how you do it, and it's not the same old cheesy double-exposure method, either.
I, Claudius Home Page
A great website about the great miniseries based on the great novels by the great Robert Graves. Gee, this is great.
Fran's Homepage
My friend Fran's page. Fran kicks ass and so does her webpage. It has writings about everything from religious freedom in high school to the suckiness of Marylin Manson, poetry, Black Crowes stuff (well, coming soon), and more.
Flapper Culture and Style
Hey, jazz babies! Pour yourself some gin, roll down your stockings, and check out this page, all about everybody's (well, my) favorite scandalous youth culture.
The Silent Majority
A huge, huge page about silent films, with reviews of the movies, info on silent stars, and just way more. It's groovy.
Find a Grave
Want to see where somebody famous is buried? This page has listings and pictures of the resting places of everyone from Queen Elizabeth I to Kurt Cobain. (For some morbid reason, I've bookmarked the gravesites of Franz Kafka, Oscar Wilde, and Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald.)
The Costume Ring Index
A bunch of pages with stuff about historical dress & theatrical costumes. If you're a history fanatic, interested in theatre, or just a clothes horse (I'm all three!) this is tres interessant.
